E.J. Johnson

 

E.J. Johnson is the dynamic lead singer of the legendary vocal group Enchantment. The beginning of national attention for the man with the “golden voice” began with the classic soul ballad “Gloria.” With his pulsating and commanding tenor, the electrifying singer has captivated and thrilled millions of music lovers all over the world.


In 1967 EJ met Dave Banks, and the two of them, along with three high school friends formed the group Enchantment. Led by EJ’s incomparable talents, Enchantment collected several number one songs such as “Gloria,” Sunshine” and “It’s You That I Need,” numerous soul-stirring classics and a couple of gold albums along the way.


The celebrated singer-songwriter, producer, arranger and musician has written songs for many legends in the music industry, including Evangelist Shirley Caesar, the Dells, B.T. Express, to name a few. In addition, he is also responsible for producing the gospel classic “If You Can’t Help Me” for Reverend Huriah Boynton.


EJ has always remained deeply rooted in gospel music. While pursuing other music interests and performing in concert around the country, the Detroit native has faithfully served as the minister of music for the past 34 years at Hebron Church of Truth as well as director of the church choir, Emanuel Johnson and the Love Chorale.


Even though he has spent much of his time involved in other projects, the multi-talented singer has released his long-awaited gospel CD entitled Universal Praise, a collection of spirit-filled songs that are sure to have you “gettin’ your praise on.”


With his 4 ½ octave range, EJ has continued to be an example for many young singers today and one of the most respected talents of our time. The music of E.J. Johnson has been inspiring and uplifting to people everywhere, from the ‘70s on into the new millennium.
